Privacy
We report on surveillance. We try not to practice it. This page says what our website collects, and why.
This website
theoverseen.org sets no cookies and uses no analytics, advertising or tracking tools. It loads nothing from any other website: our fonts, scripts and images are served from our own address. Our hosting provider keeps standard server logs, including IP addresses, for up to 30 days for security; we do not use them to identify readers.
Our website does not store anything in your browser, except that staff signed in to our internal tools keep a session in the browser until the tab is closed.
Newsletter and membership
If you subscribe or become a member, we keep your email address and, for members, your membership history. We use them only to send what you asked for and to tell you about The Overseen. We do not sell, rent or share them with anyone, including sponsors and partners. You can unsubscribe from any email.
Tips
Messages to our tips address are read only by our journalists and our director of newsroom security. We keep them only as long as they are useful to our reporting. We will resist any demand to disclose a source, in court if necessary. See how to contact us safely.
Your rights
You may ask us what we hold about you, and ask us to correct or delete it, by writing to hello@theoverseen.org. Depending on where you live, applicable data protection law may give you further rights, including the right to complain to your local data protection authority.
